Chicano Time

December 21st, 2007

Among activists there is a saying that meetings always start on “Chicano Time”. This usually means that everyone is running 5-10 minutes late. Well, in this posting I will show that it really exists.

Most people do not know that the so-called “Aztec Calendar” is actually a constellation chart. The popular image only shows the round center because the rest of it is badly damaged. The calendar was the center of a larger slab that I believe was the capstone of the Teocalli to Huitzilopochtli. I also believe that we were oriented to the Southern sky. When viewing the constellations in the Southern Sky they appear to come up from the horizon towards the sky moving to your right. In astronomy this is called the Right Ascension. Modern constellation charts correlate the Right Ascension with the 24 hours of the day. Basically, every 15 degrees equals one hour of Right Ascension.
Anyone who has read even a little on the “Aztec Calendar” is familiar with the 20 days of the Mexica Month. Well, these are, also, the 20 hours of the Mexica Day. One Mexica Hour equals 1.2 hours on the 24 hour clock (1.2 x 20=24), and we had 18 degrees of Right Ascension for every hour (18×20=360).
In conclusion, I would like to add that we had knowledge of Pi and of compasses. Notice that each ring of the calendar is perfectly round and each ring has a different pattern that does not duplicate any other ring. There are numerous pictures of our compasses in our original manuscripts if you know what to look for. I won’t include pictures here unless someone requests more information on them.

Getting Desperate! Border Guards Gas Tijuana

December 18th, 2007

U.S./Mexico War Continued
Constant harassment from south of the San Diego/Tijuana Border has forced the U.S. Border Patrol to resort to the wholesale teargassing of Tijuana neighborhoods. Men, women and children have been forced to evacuate their homes and businesses during the cross border assaults. U.S. Authorities claim that “smugglers” have been pelting the Agents with everything but the kitchen sink as a diversion tactic. In reality, it has more to do with the Border Patrol’s inherently anti-Mexican history. Just look at Palestine. It is not “militants” that throw rocks at Israeli Tanks. It is Palestinian Youth that are fed up with Israeli aggression. The irony to this is that most people were unaware of the beating the Border Patrol was taking because it wasn’t getting any coverage…until now!

The Korean War ended in a cease-fire and so did the U.S./Mexico War. Proof of this is in the fortified border. Kashmir is another example where disputed territory ends with an  enforced border. Now, the U.S. is calling on Mexico to patrol the area so they won’t have to lob tear gas anymore. If Mexico responds with troops then two standing armies will be pointing weapons at each other.

Lou Dobbs’ Attack on the Middle Class

December 15th, 2007

It is obvious that Lou Dobbs of CNN does not know the “Middle Class”. He promotes himself as a spokesman for the “Middle Class” but his anti-immigration rhetoric is a contradiction. Small Business Entrepreneurs and Blue-Collar Workers are the “Middle Class”. Many of them are dealing with employer sanctions laws, and others arrived here as undocumented workers themselves. I met a million dollar business owner that came into the United States hidden in the wheel well of a truck. He now employs engineers and service technicians. Lou Dobbs attacks the “Middle Class” with his constant racist rants.

Yes, racist! It doesn’t matter that his wife is Mexican-American. I am sure she is very “obedient”, and I bet her family rolls out the red carpet for him every time he comes home. How do I know? My Aunt married a successful and prejudicial American. As a kid, I remember my Grandmother lecturing me before we would go over to visit. “They are not like us”, “Do this”, “Don’t do that”, “Don’t touch anything”, “Remember to do this” she would say. When we got to their house my Grandmother was treated like their Mexican Maid. No Respect!

Independence Movements Going Strong

December 9th, 2007

Kosovo is set to join the ranks of Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, and Montenegro when it breaks away from Serbia next year and votes for Statehood. Serbia opposes the move, and Russia believes that other movements around the world will be inspired by  Kosovo’s  model.

In the 1990’s, as the Union of Yugoslavia went to war with itself many Southern Nationalists(Confederates) were watching closely at how the U.S. would respond. When  the U.S. recommended the dissolution of Yugoslavia the Southerners were enraged. “Why was secession o.k. for others but not for the South?” they wondered. At that moment the modern Secession Movement of the South rose again. Timothy McVeigh was among them. However, a new component has been added to the equation. The freed slaves have remained in the South and have populated the cities of Atlanta, New Orleans and others. This is the crossroads the South finds itself at today.

In the Southwest, the demographics are changing so rapidly that a vote for an Independent Aztlan State is just around the corner. Without comprehensive Immigration reform, and with increased attacks people will start looking at self-defense and self-determination. The optimists were sure that once they voted enough Democrats into office the changes would follow. This did not happen.  Amnesty was the first casualty in this conflict and compromise was the next. So what are the alternatives?
In the 21st Century we may witness the redrawing of world maps as new States, or Countries, emerge from crumbling Nations.

An Army of Cowards?

December 5th, 2007

Last month it was reported that U.S. Army Deserters numbered 4,698 in 2007. This was a 42% increase from 2006, and since 2003 desertion rates were up 80%. Will these flag waving “patriots” call them all cowards? Or, maybe the Deserters are the real Patriots.

Hispanic/Latinos Attacked in their Motherland!

December 5th, 2007

Spanish Right Wing Nazis have proven that the “Hispanic/Latino” identity is a joke. Attacks on “immigrants” in Spain are on the rise. In separate incidents, a Brazilian and a Colombian were assaulted by Spanish Nazis who accused them of being job stealing foreigners. Sound familiar? Spanish Nazis, also, killed a pro-immigrant demonstrator in November. When Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez exposed the Spanish Government’s fascist ties the King of Spain told him to “Shut up”. Don’t believe the “Hispanic/Latino” hype!

Cognitive Dissonance & Mexican Identity

December 1st, 2007

Cognitive Dissonance Theory was developed by Leon Festinger in 1962. It, basically, states that people make choices based on their beliefs. However, many times conflicting beliefs force us to make choices that create mental tension. To relieve this tension, we can, either, change our beliefs or downplay/dismiss the other choices.

Many Mexicans feel there is less tension to call themselves Hispanic/Latino then to deal with their cultural reality. They believe that the Spanish language and surnames dominate shared cultural traits. Our common ancestry with Maya, Yaqui and other indigenous people is dismissed for an alliance with Puerto Ricans, Cubans, etc. Unity with the status quo of “Latin America” is their objective. I am all for unity but not if our power, influence and wealth is siphoned off to the east coast and Florida.

The book Mexico Profundo by Prof. Guillermo Bonfil Batalla does a great job of defining Mexican Identity. The Mexica Movement works everyday to educate on identity issues, also. The fact is that 90% of Mexican History happened before the arrival of the Spaniards, but we are taught that this is irrelevant. Ah, the white supremacy myth. Why is it that despite enslavement, rape and slaughter by Babylonians, Spaniards and Germans, Jewish People have retained their identity? How is that possible?

Five Generations in Aztlan

November 30th, 2007

In the 1800’s my Great Grandfather & Great Grandmother met in Xucshon, Aztlan (Tucson,AZ). He was from Ures, Sonora and she was from Hermosillo, Sonora. My Grandmother was born on what is now known as the San Xavier Reservation on March 3rd, 1912. This was about 2 weeks after Arizona became a state. My Grandmother, or Nana Carmen as we called her, was the youngest of her siblings. Nana Carmen’s family left the reservation and settled in what is now called the City of South Tucson. This is where my Mother and her sisters were born. They all lived in a house along with their cousins.
I was, also, born in Xucshon and as a kid I remember Tohono O’Odam Pow Wow’s, Yaqui Easter Fariseos, and Mexican Dia de La Virgen Celebrations. I remember jabbing at the fruit on the tops of the Sahuaro cactus to make jam, and I remember turning the corn grinder when it was time to make tamales. I have memories of all the bad things that happen in the barrios, but there are others that write volumes on that side of life.
My children were born here and my grandchild will be born here. My niece had a baby boy 2 years ago here in Xucshon. So I guess my point is…

We didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us!

Sonoran Death March

November 28th, 2007

Washington says Fortify, So they’re pushed to the desert to burn and die!

They cross jagged canyons filled with rattlesnakes, Watch their children start to bake!

It’s not even worth the wage they make, Just to cook your f*ckin’ steak!

Thousands of soldiers try to keep them out, What’s this madness all about??

It’s not terrorists or the Taliban, Just millions of Mexicans!

High speed chase, spikes in place, mangled bodies on the interstate!

Mexican Migrant saves lost boy in desert

November 25th, 2007

Jesus Manuel Cordova,26, from Magdalena de Kino, Sonora, Mexico was walking into Aztlan on Thanksgiving Day when he came across a wandering 9 year old boy. The boy had been camping with his mother when their minivan slid off the road and over a cliff. The woman was trapped in the wreckage, but her son freed himself to go look for help. That is when Jesus Cordova found him scared and disoriented. They went back to the vehicle but were unable to free the mother. She later died. The area was off a forest service road and nightfall prevented them from finding any assistance. Jesus made a bonfire and gave the boy his jacket. In the morning they came across a group of hunters and the authorities were called. When Santa Cruz County Sheriff Dept. and U.S. Border Patrol arrived the boy was taken to the hospital and Jesus was deported. (Click azstarnet for the whole story)
