Independence Movements Going Strong
Kosovo is set to join the ranks of Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, and Montenegro when it breaks away from Serbia next year and votes for Statehood. Serbia opposes the move, and Russia believes that other movements around the world will be inspired by Kosovo’s model.
In the 1990’s, as the Union of Yugoslavia went to war with itself many Southern Nationalists(Confederates) were watching closely at how the U.S. would respond. When the U.S. recommended the dissolution of Yugoslavia the Southerners were enraged. “Why was secession o.k. for others but not for the South?” they wondered. At that moment the modern Secession Movement of the South rose again. Timothy McVeigh was among them. However, a new component has been added to the equation. The freed slaves have remained in the South and have populated the cities of Atlanta, New Orleans and others. This is the crossroads the South finds itself at today.
In the Southwest, the demographics are changing so rapidly that a vote for an Independent Aztlan State is just around the corner. Without comprehensive Immigration reform, and with increased attacks people will start looking at self-defense and self-determination. The optimists were sure that once they voted enough Democrats into office the changes would follow. This did not happen. Amnesty was the first casualty in this conflict and compromise was the next. So what are the alternatives?
In the 21st Century we may witness the redrawing of world maps as new States, or Countries, emerge from crumbling Nations.
